Choosing the right office chair can be a bit of a minefield. The options are endless, and the prices can differ considerably. Obviously the easiest way to select a chair is to go to a showroom and try the chairs in person, however this isn't easy for everyone.
We've put together some key information below to help you make the right decision.
Ergonomic seating
Some chairs may state that they are an ergonomic chair. This will mean that these chairs have been designed to improve posture related issues. Many chairs offer additional extras which can include things such as coccyx cut out, which provides pressure relief to the tail bone area caused by trauma or scarring. Another extra maybe an inflatable lumbar support, this is a popular choice. A lumbar support will increase the contact area of the lower back, giving additional support to the lumbar area and supporting the natural curvature of the spine whilst preventing fatigue and lower back pain. A inflatable thoracic support could be added to some chairs, this extra will increase the contact area of the upper spine by filling the space between the shoulder blades, helping to prevent slouching and reduce pain/ discomfort in the shoulder and neck area. If you have health issues and require further help about picking the right chair for you, please do not hesitate to contact us, or fill out our ergonomic chair form and we'll get back to you with suggested chairs.
Useage
How many hours will you be sitting at this chair for in a working day. A lot of our chairs will come with a recommended usage. Are you looking for a chair you'll spend a couple of hours a day at, or will you be spending 10 + hours.
Arm Options
You maybe surprised to hear that there are many different arm options of office chairs. We have listed some of the options below with brief descriptions.
- Foldaway arms - Do exactly that, these are may fold down or up so that your chair becomes armless. This may make it easier to tuck under a desk.
- Height and Depth adjustable arms - These will go up and down to suit where they are needed but will also go side to side. This is good for broader people.
- Height and foldaway - a mixture of both of the above. These will move up and down and foldaway altogether.
- Fixed arms - these won't move at all, you may find these more on executive chairs where the upholstery and cushioning are found on an arm.
Colours and finishes
The colour options on some chairs are endless. We price all of our chairs for the website in the lower band fabrics, however, if these colours don't suit your needs we have endless options of fabrics and colours to select from, you may find that some increase the price of your chair, but to fit with a colour scheme a small price increase could be worth it! All fabrics used are tested and pass to commercial usage.
Some chairs come in standard colours, have a choice of black base and polished chrome base, some may have different castors depending on whether you are on carpet or a hard flooring, if you are unsure on these, please contact us for further help.
