The Antelope chair part of the Ernest Race Heritage Collection
The Antelope bench, designed for the 'Festival of Britain', was heralded the 'New Elizabethan' spirit with its playful sculptural form. Gordan Russell, chair of the selection judges for the festival believed Races Antelope design was miles ahead of his contemporaries. Painted in the festival colours of yellow, blue, red or grey, the Antelope became one of the iconic designs of the event.
In 1955 the Antelope chair won both Gold and Silver medals at the Salone del Milano, a first for British furniture design.
Today the Antelope bench can be used in both indoor and outdoor areas. It is a popular choice for homes, cafes, restaurants and offices. The Antelope chair is also available on our website.
